A new story to drive climate action

The world has made great progress, but today, further vital climate action remains required. The clock is ticking, and they can be achieved in time if we focus on them, with humble leadership, social engagement, and responsible financing. The earth continues to warm up at a steady pace. The root cause is the increase in man-made greenhouse gases(1)(2), leading to ecological and humanitarian crises.

How can we stop this increase in greenhouse gases? What solutions can be implemented to achieve this? Are there already solutions to replicate to achieve this?

Good news! A new economy very different from yesterday’s is emerging, a sustainable and positive economy based on a more equitable social system, a respect for the environment and an improvement of democracy(3)(4). A new economy that if well implemented will benefit everyone and will bring the necessary systemic transformations for the preservation of nature and humanity. Here are some of the major projects that are already underway: Clean and renewable energies, circular economy, 21st century education, sustainable transport, waste management and recycling, preservation of seas, oceans and terrestrial life, prevention of air pollution(5).

For this transition to be possible on a larger scale all stakeholders in the changes must now cooperate in this same direction from tech giants to global citizen.

Another key point is that a change in the predominant narrative is needed, as too often the change focuses on adverse solutions and doomsday scenarios, such as the establishment of a green diktat, carbon passports, loss of jobs and income, to name a few. These stories sound like warnings of what is to come if we remain impassive, but they also have the effect of keeping people frozen. Yes, we must raise awareness, but we also have a duty to inspire people to make massive actions.

Other solutions are possible and many initiatives that are already launched prove it. They have the advantage of encouraging action and of offering the necessary resources to all those who wish to take action.

By acting fully for the planet, we are writing a new story for humanity and the planet. Let’s keep in mind that solutions already exist, and it only remains for each of us to get to work at our own level, and simply give the means to the right people to keep working on innovative and sustainable solutions.
